Thanks to Monsieur Tiersen, I believe that gold has been struck. Mainly because of the mood a good soundtrack can create. At the time I first listened to Amélie, I was going through a lot of soundtracks. When I picked up the soundtrack for a proper listen, I had not seen the film (I have yet to rectify this). I hadn’t given it a full listen though, definitely not the one it deserved. What a city Paris is!Īt the time, I believe I was vaguely familiar with the soundtrack to Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. Besides that, the little peculiarities of the place – the small markets selling second hand books, the buskers, and yes the beggars as well. And not just the usual suspects – the Tour Eiffel, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre Dame Cathedral. Just writing this brings back a flood of memories, mostly romanticized perhaps, but very vivid indeed. I’m thrilled to say that I’ve been to Paris before. The music, the art direction, the editing, the way a character is introduced, and the acting are all, in themselves, enough reason to come and see this classic. And also "the man of glass," her neighbor who is housebound, living his life through the Renoir reproductions he paints. And also Georgette, her hypochondriac colleague. So, she helps the janitor of her apartment complex, who drinks port all day while talking to her stuffed dog. But then she discovers her ultimate life goal: to solve other people's problems. Amélie Poulain works as a waitress in a café in Paris's Montmartre district and enjoys observing people while letting her imagination run wild. ![]()
